The Sunday Bumday

So we have been putting up some #SundayBumday photo's of our items on our Facebook page.

Every sunday for the last month, its sort of coincided with advent a little and I am thinking of continuing this for a little while.

My way

I have been dabbling in doing my own thing for ages, I have done Burlesque, Pole dance costumes and dance costumes. All while working or studying.

So why not venture out and start my very own label.

I have a bit of a love for lingerie and Pole dance of course, but that might only be the start.

I knew it was going to be hard to start something from not much, and I decided I would do it anyway. Since I had taken the hard road all my life this wasn't going to be any different.

While working for a Jewellery company as a Christmas casual in Arbon, I met a lovely lady that was a seamstress herself. She was a constant inspiration and always helped me along the way. It was great to have someone to bounce ideas off and also show her some stuff that I had learned over the years.

She was starting her label at the same time as me, hers being more of a up market clothing label we helped each other when we needed to.

This gave me the confidence and also backing of a person who has lived in Switzerland longer than me, and I could count on her honesty and help.

I am going to start with my Etsy store, see how that goes.
My main problem will be the strength of the Swiss franc, export will be tricky. People like cheap and cheerful but I am not planning on being that kind of label.
I am hoping to make good quality items with great fabrics that will last several washes and wears.

Once I have sold a few items I am also planning on making a Couture range, which will be limited edition. Probably more for the stage and performances.

I have had a photo shoot with a great lady called Mara to give people a idea of what these items look like on the body. She is not a pole dancer, but a great sport and circus performer with Gravity Riders.
And she did me a great favor posing on and off the pole. 

 I am also very grateful for the help I got from the team at Kühnis Augenoptik in Rorschach, for letting me use their in equipment and cellar to shoot.





I am hoping my general line will become a great source for people to use in the gym, circus or on the pole.
These are just the start I have more designs I would like to make reality but for now I have to earn some money first to be able to purchase more material.

Raw Showcase for Lady A

I did this thing called Raw Artist Showcase, where a bunch of artistic people come together and put on a show for one night.

there is usually Visual artists, performing artists, Music, Fashion and make up people.

You make something or bring stuff along and show your talent to the audience on the night. 

I decided to make some of my corset designs that have been living in a draw for the last few years.

And I was lucky enough to have many amazing friends model them for me, and help me out with finishing them off.

It was great fun making these, and I am hoping that I can either sell them or take some with me to Europe. it all depends which ones I am most attached to I guess ;)

a dress to be remembered

Last year I  made a wedding dress for a Lady at work, one of the guys at work did a sketch to work from we went fabric shopping, did fittings and many hours later a dress was made.

It was one of the only wedding dresses I have made that I can say was a pleasure to make.

The bride knew what she wanted and she appreciated all the work that went into making this garment.

presenting Tubeless

As some of you already know I have been working on a wearable art garment made of bicycle tubes.

I seem to always set myself such funky little projects, and rarely get to take good photo's of these things.

This time I had amazing help from a great photographer and a very stunning lady.

I still don't know if it will go into the art of fashion exhibit or runway but at least I have documentation of how it can look.

the bustier was a bit big in the cups but it added another little oddity to play with

I think the slightly fetish look of the tubes lent it self to a stronger look.

But she was also able to look very artisic

 Playing with shadows was also fun

The head piece gave it something else

 

and its always a good idea to bring a whip into something like this ;)

Where to with burlesque........?

If you have been following me for a bit you would be able to tell that I make a few burlesque costumes. They have given me the chance to test my skills, try new things and made me think.

 

When the movie came out everyone jumped at the chance to dress like a burlesque star and decided it was a great idea to dress in a corset and a tiny skirt. I understand that it brings out your inner woman, and for most a corset can give you a lovely figure, but why didn't they rush out and decided to wear this?

 

We know why, the main reason being not everyone can or is comfortable enough to wear that and the other is that it is something that needs to be made for you usually.

This is where the performer and the audience should be easily separated I believe, the audience will purchase the off the shelf mass produced stuff. And the performer will go and have something created for his or her personal performance.

There will be the odd Audience member that can go and get things made or do such a thing them self.

I have seen a few shows and images of shows lately where the performer could have been a audience member from the look of their costume.

This has made me wonder, if the plan for me is to bring out performance Lingerie and corsets could it be a bit of a waist of time or is it just that people don't know where to go for these one off specially made things?

 

I also wonder if it is just because of my location in Australia that I have no luck or even interest. There is always the other alternative, my stuff could just be plain boring and there really is no interest.

 

Anyway it made me wonder, and since I have already drafted the lingerie and cut out some samples I think I should at least make some and see what people say to them.

If I have no luck put it down to experience and move on, you have to try things sometimes.

 

 I will keep you posted on the happenings of this stuff

Can Can finished

I have finially finished the can can skirt,

And yes there are somethings that I would do differently.

1. I would box pleat the rows on

2. I would attach the top skirt at the hem before adding the rows

3. I would use a different top fabric

so here are some photos of the skirt but the show photo's are yet to come.

They have a rehearsal tomorrow and then the shows are Friday Saturday night.

I must say it is fun to wear and jump around in, but whether I will ever make another I am not sure.
